Significant Changes to NESA PD Requirements for NSW Teachers

Starting from August 2024, NESA has reformed the professional development (PD) requirements for NSW teachers. This change simplifies the accreditation process, allowing all professional development activities, including those that were previously accredited and those that were not, to now count towards the required 100 hours of PD.

What's changed?

NESA will no longer assess or accredit new PD courses; instead, teachers can log their own professional learning through NESA’s updated framework.

This framework provides clear guidelines on what counts as quality PD, supporting teachers across all career stages. Importantly, these changes reduce administrative burden, allowing you to focus more on teaching while fulfilling your accreditation requirements efficiently. What's more, this reform empowers you to choose more PD that genuinely interests you and aligns with your professional goals.

What does this mean for NSW teachers taking ClassCover Learn's courses?

ClassCover Learn’s courses, whether they held prior NESA accreditation or not, continue to be valuable, contributing to your PD hours.

ClassCover Learn is recognised by NESA and has been included in the list of NESA-approved providers, ensuring that our courses meet the professional development needs of NSW teachers.

Previously, we were only able to gain NESA accreditation for courses that aligned with the four priority areas: delivery and assessment of the NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework, student/child mental health, students/children with disability, and Aboriginal education and supporting Aboriginal students/children. While these courses were rigorously assessed and met NESA’s high standards, many other valuable topics that did not fit within these areas were unable to receive accreditation.

With the recent changes, all topics—whether they fit within the previous priority areas or not—are now equally valuable and can count towards your required PD hours. This gives you the freedom to explore a broader range of professional development that aligns with your interests and needs as an educator.

Rest assured, all current and future ClassCover Learn courses are developed to the same high standards, providing you with quality learning experiences to support your professional growth.

We will continue to log participant's details for NESA accredited courses via eTams until the accreditation for each course expires.

We hope you enjoy a more relaxed approach to completing your teacher PD and can enjoy a wider range of topics that suit you!

Happy learning
