Developing Healthy Attachments to Support the Growth of Confident Early Learners

Behaviour and learning are closely connected, with behaviour often communicating an underlying need. This course explores how secure, responsive relationships support children’s regulation, confidence and engagement in learning.

Educators will gain practical, evidence-informed strategies to move beyond traditional behaviour management and create attachment-aware learning environments that help children become capable, confident and successful learners.

About this course

Behaviour and learning are not separate from one another. Many educators find themselves trying to “manage” behaviour so that learning can happen, yet behaviour is often communicating an unmet need. When we understand the role of attachment and intentionally create classroom environments that nurture children’s innate attachment needs, everything begins to shift.

This course explores how secure, responsive relationships support regulation, confidence and engagement in learning. Educators will be supported to move away from outdated, rigid behavioural approaches that often miss the why behind children’s behaviour, and towards a more human-centred, evidence-based understanding of what children truly need to become confident learners. You will leave feeling confident that you are giving children the strongest possible foundation to grow into the capable, confident early learners you know they can be.

You will:

  • Develop a clear understanding of attachment and its role in supporting regulation and learning
  • Explore how children’s behaviour operates in the service of attachment and connection
  • Reflect on how your own attachment experiences may influence your responses and classroom practices
  • Learn practical, developmentally appropriate ways to embed attachment-nurturing approaches into everyday classroom practice
