About this course

This course unpacks how to effectively introduce and build design thinking in alignment with the NSW Digital Technologies syllabus. However, the content is relevant for teachers across Australia. It explores key concepts such as identifying user needs, generating and refining ideas, prototyping, and evaluating solutions.​​​​​​​

Teachers will gain practical strategies and lesson examples to embed empathy, creativity, and critical thinking into their teaching. This course is designed to support teachers working with Years 5–8. This is the first in a three-part series exploring key thinking skills.

You will:

  • Explore how design thinking aligns with the NSW Technologies syllabus for Years 5–8 and how this is relevant for other states and territories 
  • Understand the key stages and principles of the design thinking process 
  • Identify strategies to introduce and scaffold design thinking in the classroom 
  • Access practical lesson ideas and resources to support student-centred problem solving
